Karabo Poppy Moletsane celebrates the underrepresented

Karabo Poppy Moletsane is an artist and illustrator rebalancing African representation in the industry. At September’s Nicer Tuesdays we were lucky enough to hear not only about her inclusive practice but also how she uses her influence and platform to lift other African artists up. Introducing us to a host of contemporary talent at the crux of her talk, Karabo kicked things off by describing her beginnings in the arts, and how, back then, there was no one that looked like her in the mainstream.

In this inspiring talk, Karabo discussed the importance of accurate representation when it comes to African culture, both the historic and the contemporary. She concluded her talk by answering a few questions from our editor Matt, discussing how she developed the style that we all know and love today, and giving the lowdown of what it means to be a South African creative in 2020.
