Fresh line work and hip young people in Shin Morae’s illustrations

Shin Morae’s work reminds me distantly of Janne Livonen’s illustrations, but the Korean illustrator’s style feels looser and less animated. Along with her personal work Shin has collaborated with companies like online marketplace The Cracker Shop and Korean toy shop Delitoys.

This particular series is more editorial based and was created for Seoul-based clothing brand Ader to sit alongside content for their website. The illustrations depict clusters of young people going about their day in an effortlessly cool fashion. From carrying canvases and blowing bubblegum to casually using a spirit level, there’s an uncomplicated banality that piques the viewer’s interest despite the lack of action. Incredibly on trend with Pantone’s Colours of the Year used throughout, Shin’s day-to-day worlds feel familiar but her fresh approach and clean line work keep it modern and engaging.
