Boiler Room collaborates with Google Pixel 2 to generate music with AI
Boiler Room, the channel famed for televising underground music “as it happens” from around the world to an online community, has posted a teaser for an upcoming collaboration with Google Pixel 2 across its social media.
The short video introduces Pixel Records “a label from the future, built by state of the art machine intelligence”. The record label, although fictional, invites the audience to “collaborate with us and share the essence of your being”. A visit to the project’s website allows you to submit vocal wave forms, see Google Magenta’s AI algorithm transform those vocals and then download your first release. The project will debut this technology “online and at the sci-fi super mall in Berlin on 2 November,” where you can meet your “humble AI maestro”.
Google Magenta, inspired by the exciting work in image generation from neural networks such as DeepDream, is designed to “transform physical sounds without distorting them beyond recognition, retaining their organic nature,” as explained on the Pixel Records website: “upload a vocal sample, and we’ll do the rest.”
This isn’t the first time Boiler Room has collaborated with Google Pixel. For the release of the first Pixel, it worked on VR Dancefloors: Techno in Berlin. The project was the first virtual dance floor experience designed for Daydream view and Google Pixel. The 15-minute film took you deep into the “subversive and liberated world of Berlin’s nightclub culture. Soundtracked by local heroes Fjaak,” the experience also featured a live performance of new music created during the shoot.
