EyeEm has announced the shortlist for its third annual photography awards, which receives a mammoth 270,000 submissions from over 38,000 photographers in 150 countries. This makes it the largest photography competition for emerging talent.

On the jury are Michael Christopher Brown, a Magnum photographer; Lars Boering from World Press Photo; Sarah Leen from National Geographic; and Tom Hind from Getty Images. The panel selects 20 top images in each of five categories: The Architect, The Great Outdoors, The Photojournalist, The Portraitist and The Street Photographer.

The category winners and Photographer of the Year will be announced on 27 August. Below is a small selection of the 100 shortlisted photographs.
