The fashion set in attendance at the Balenciaga show for the Paris Fashion Week just gone got more than the boxy-shouldered collection than they bargained for. The French fashion super-house’s creative director Demna Gvasalia commissioned digital artist and filmmaker Jon Rafman to create a mind-melting LED-panelled tunnel for the models’ walk to showcase his latest collection for Spring/Summer 2019.

Show-goers were encased in a capsule like tunnel featuring the trippy visuals of Jon Rafman, created in collaboration with It’s Nice That favourite, Ezra Miller .

The show notes referring to the the whirlwind, trip-reminiscent installation put forward the following explanation for Jon’s commission: “The familiar colour of an error screen invokes panic—only to be washed away by digitally-rendered liquid substances. The journey continues through eerie digital ecosystems, alien landscapes, and late-stage techno-fetishist civilizations on the verge of collapse.

Space-time folds in on itself as the video dazzles and transfixes the viewer.” Like most fashion week show notes, the more complex the description the better the perceived concept, but watch Jon and Ezra’s work on the tunnel entitled Ride Never Ends to experience its alternate reality magic yourself.
