Business publication Bloomberg reports that streaming service supremos Netflix is looking to make a move into the inky world of print.

Following on from Buzzfeed’s brief pivot to IRL dissemination last month, Netflix is said to be putting together a magazine to attract a stash of Emmy nominations. Bloomberg says that Wide — a working title, we’re told — will include “interviews, essays and features about and by people who work on Netflix series.”

Wide will form part of a multi-pronged strategy to snatch up as many awards as possible, which the company hopes will provide its in-house studio with the sort of legitimacy that the long-established major Hollywood production players have.

Bloomberg quotes an internal source at Netflix as saying that Wide features a smattering of the “most talented and sought after writers and photographers, thinkers and creatives,” working today. It is yet to name names, but it is known that former Vanity Fair editor Krista Smith has joined the Wide team.

Not content with being the Sunday morning streaming service of choice for around 150 million consumers across the globe, Netflix is intent on grabbing the sort of awards that usually go to the likes of HBO.

It should be noted that Netflix isn’t looking to take Wide to newsstands; it is very much an industry-insider issue, so fear not the good folks at the Radio Times and Total TV Guide. Your days aren’t numbered quite yet.
