Vice launches its UK mag redesign, with cover image by the folks behind Toilet Paper mag

Vice has launched its redesigned magazine in the UK, with designs created in-house and a cover designed by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari of Toilet Paper magazine.

The publication now focuses on three main areas: “more cultural content, more structure, and more short, visually interesting pieces in the front of the book,” says Ellis Jones, Vice editor-in-chief. “Our magazine tends to be more news-heavy, which I love, but we want to strike a better balance when it comes to including cultural coverage too.”

As we reported in December last year, the magazine launches new columns looking at “sex, finance, and much more,” as well as the “Briefs” section for shorter, more visual culture and news pieces; the “Well” section for long-form features, photo portfolios, and fiction; and the “Field Notes” section for commentary, columns, ephemera, and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of each cover image.

Features and visual stories in the new issue include those on Daniel Clowes’s new graphic novel Patience and a photo portfolio shot by Kent Andreasen of images of South Africa’s diamond ghost town, as well as a feature looking at LGBT Kenyan refugees by journalist Jacob Kushner.
