Dazzled by the eye-catching work of Berlin-based studio 44flavours
One of the best things about working here at It’s Nice That is when one of our colleagues tips us off to a creative superstar we hadn’t previously heard of. It was yesterday that our art director Jamie McIntyre casually dropped the name 44flavours into conversation and when I got round to checking out their work today it’s fair to say my flabber was ghasted.
Formed in 2003 by Sebastian Bagge and Julio Rölle, the Berlin-based design and art direction duo say they’ve spent a decade “developing unconventional analogue typography and finding creative ways to smuggle art inspired contraband into commercial branding and communications.”
They go on: “44flavours value honesty, transparency, spontaneity, creative chaos, teamwork, a good sense of humour, a lightness of spirit, yo-yo and table tennis prowess, as well as a client’s courage to experiment and to be different.”
Sadly their portfolio offers few clues to their table tennis skills but it is full to bursting with visual gems ranging from posters and murals to sculptures and editorial illustrations. It’s fun, it’s vibrant and it couldn’t be more up our street if it was parked on our front lawn.
