A well-shot film is judged by its ability to be paused and resemble a beautiful photograph. Similarly, in animation, each time the film is paused it should really resemble a very well-drawn, wall-worthy illustration. This film by the After Effects wizard that is Nexus’ Johnny Kelly and writer Scott Burnett does just that, and simultaneously promotes young people designing stuff at the same time.

The film was commissioned by Pivot Dublin for makeshapechange, a project created to “Get young people thinking about how the world is made around them, and where design fits in.” Well that’s a bloody good cause if I ever heard one. Thank goodness spectacular animators are here to make all the information of the project float into your brain easier than sinking into a brand new bean bag. You don’t get better than this.

A blue line illustration spells out the word “shape” using simplified objects. The letters are formed by a ribbon, a bridge, a lamp shade, a microphone and a traffic light.
