Photographer Clément Pascal reveals Strange Things Happen for a Reason
Documentary photographer Clément Pascal has unveiled his new book Strange Things Happen for a Reason. The images Clement creates are carefully composed but revel in ambiguity, hinting at false realities within delicate and familiar scenes. The book, made in collaboration with artist Edouard Nardon, is an engrossing journey that lacks a distinct narrative arc, causing the viewer to pause and consider the beauty and humour in each photograph.
The images in the book are unstaged, as Clément feels that “preparation and staging the imagery could lead to the absence of ‘the opportune moment’” which he feels defines his work. We first featured the work of Clément in 2013 and this is his first self-published book. With a portfolio that includes portraiture, reportage and fashion work alongside his excellent documentary photography, it is interesting to see the world through the lens of Clément following his own brief and passions.
