Photographer Danny Lowe's latest series unpacks self identity through hair
We last featured photographer Danny Lowe on the site back in April, when we picked out his eye for fashion and portrait photography. Danny’s latest story Self Identity comes in collaboration with hair stylist James Oxley, who Danny met through fellow hairstylist Brady Lea. Through a strikingly tender selection of black and white portraits, Self Identity gets up close and personal with male models.
“Whenever I go out in London especially in East London, I am surrounded by creative people,” Danny explains. “You tend to see more openminded ideas here when it comes to fashion and style. That’s where I noticed how many different styles of haircut people have.”
Danny took charge of casting the shoot, looking in particular “for interesting faces that would really add something to the hair looks.”
“I wanted to create visually interesting images with hair as the focus,” Danny says. “All the models are young up and coming, all with a really individual look and style. Hair sets people apart.”
“I didn’t want classic beauty models. Some of the models came from an agency called SUPA, I have a close friendship with them, and they are such a friendly agency. They have a strong family feel about them which is something I love.”
