An update from multidisciplinary graphic designer Ines Cox

The sleek graphic design of Antwerp-based Ines Cox is one we praise consistently at It’s Nice That. A key part of what makes the designer’s work so refreshing is her breadth of projects. From “publication and book design, exhibition design, brand identities, web design, installations, teaching and workshops,” combined with a broad client list, Ines is a designer with all bases covered.

After graduating from Luca School of Arts, Ghent, the designer studied a second master’s from Werkplaats Typografie in the Netherlands. Now, Ines is in the educator role herself, teaching typography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp.

One way to keep up with the designer’s work is her blog documentation. The diary-style updates from the designer show “all kinds of screenshots coming from my design process,” she explains. It is rare that a designer is open about works in progress, making the blog a real treat to scroll through, while learning about her research project at the Royal Academy.

A recent piece of work from Ines displays her ability to work with independent artists, designing a compendium of work as an accurate representation of their practice. The Way You Moved Through Me, a book designed for artist Peter Jellitsch is an ideal example of this. The artist’s monochromatic based work is shown before the publication delves into his process through photography, data drawings and initial sketches. All of this creative intellect is thoughtfully composed into a book by Ines, with type that almost mirrors Peter’s work, offset with a blushing pink cover to the black and white content inside.

Another project from Ines, a poster design for Princess Nokia, shows her capability to push even the simplest of briefs to the next level. Rather than just a poster the designer created a gif similar to the visuals as if you are typing on an old Nokia 3310.

All of Ines’ projects are thoughtfully curated and presented as a series of modules, like files on a desktop, which the designer has penned Finder. Overlapping and composed the animated portfolio is an interesting take on presenting work, a show reel of typographic expertise and graphic design.
