Kick back and enjoy Karin Meenen’s drawings of well-designed chairs
Who’s for a game of musical chairs on these beautiful seats?
Karin Meenen has a passion for all things interior design, but especially chairs. “They not only contribute to the functional use of a space but also have a significant impact on the aesthetics, atmosphere and social dynamics of a room,” she says. “I even think of them as being a bit humanoid themselves.” Though any well-designed item she encounters can push Karin’s interest toward the paintbrush; “a friend’s newest treasure, maybe a curvy lamp or scuffed armchair”. For Karin, creating such work also satisfies her itch to buy – a sustainable way of incorporating her favourite designs into her home without worrying about space or money.
Karin’s interior-focused work also grew out of a desire to reacquaint herself with illustration, after spending many years working in editorial and branding design. She draws in a lighthearted manner, avoids too much overthinking and “focuses more on the process than the result”, before finishing things off with watercolour. Sometimes Karin lenses in on a single seat, and sometimes she compiles numerous into busy posters – a heady dream for any fellow chair fanatic.
