Designer Karolina Pietrzyk’s compellingly abstract poster work

Date
23 October 2015

Poland-based designer Karolina Pietrzyk graduated only last year and has already developed a varied and well-referenced practice designing posters for exhibitions, music and design festivals. Her work shifts from sparse, line-based layouts to abstract shapes and fades, creating strange landscapes and scenes. Karolina’s use of pastel and acid shades reinforces her ode to poster traditions gone by and her employment of negative space conveys impressive confidence, leaving room for communication while maintaining definite character. Her poster for Poland’s Galeria na Czystej is a particularly strong example. Karolina’s use of type as part of the image is visually arresting without compromising on readability, and combined with the floating ball motif and ice-blue fades makes for a compelling image.
