In the latest Lecture in Progress podcast, Creative Lives, renowned illustrator Malika Favre talks about her unlikely path to illustration. The episode features the French creative sharing insights to life as one of the best known illustrators in the business, working for clients including Vogue, Bafta and The New Yorker.

“I approach illustration from a graphic design perspective,” she says, explaining how her first jobs in the industry influenced her style, which she now describes as “minimalist, bold, and sometimes a little bit sexy”.

First, though, she describes how as a child she wanted to be a psychiatrist and “study serial killers”. She also tells how she had a short stint studying engineering but thought “she looked a little bit crazy to be an engineer”.

Malika’s Le Crazy exhibition opens today in London until 3 December.

Lecture in Progress’ weekly podcast interviews creatives about what they do, and how they got to where they are. So far the series has featured Lance Wyman, Morag Myerscough, Aardman’s Gavin Strange, Saatchi & Saatchi’s Franki Goodwin and Freytag Anderson’s Greig Anderson.
