Texas-based photographer Matt Rainwaters has an impressive portfolio and a roster of clients which demands respect but it was this intriguing project which caught our eye. Catfish is a series inspired by Richard Avedon and Mike Disfarmer’s work documenting rural American life in the middle of the last century, brought bang up-to-date. By taking portraits of various people holding catfish, Matt captures so much more than mere poses, and his pictures are a record of a section of American society too often reduced to sneery stereotypes.
