Photography: Michael Bodiam's tremendous series shows a different side of California

Date
2 January 2014

Photographer Michael Bodiam is well-known for his stylised still-lifes for achingly hip clients like Mr Porter and Disegno. But browsing his site recently I came across this stunning series of California; a state which has certain immediate connotations for us Brits. Michael eschews the usual cliches though in favour of eerily quiet, depopulated scenes; each carries a hint of humanity’s impact on the landscape such as a low wall or an abandoned digger but against the vast natural expanse these flourishes come across almost as folly. A terrific set of pictures from an image-maker at the very top of his game.
