Designer Motoi Shito’s sophisticated covers for film magazine
Japanese designer Motoi Shito creates all sorts from adverts, books, websites and corporate branding, but it’s his ongoing art direction for Shochiku, a movie studio and production company based in Tokyo, that stands out. Motoi designs Shochiku Magazine the company’s internal magazine that features the history and activity of the people that work there.
The designer’s covers and posters feel sophisticated and refined. Earlier issues have a different central landscape image with the text organised around it in different colour palettes. However, Motoi’s most recent work for Shochiku is completely different. With the company celebrating its 120th year, the cover and related assets use no photography at all and its a refreshing departure. Lovely typographical elements dance around the page as orange spheres and green oblongs frame the text.
