Shooting at the magic hour with the talented Ramon Haindl

Date

“I grew up in the Bavarian countryside so I’m very drawn towards nature and everything that smells of fresh cut grass,” says Ramon Haindl. You get a real sense for this in the rich, earthy hues, dusky light and natural surroundings that tie together the Frankfurt-based photographer’s diverse editorial, commercial and personal portfolios. Everything looks as if it’s been shot in those magic hours as the sun comes up or just before it goes down. No stranger to us here at It’s Nice That, we’ve waxed lyrical about his work from the beginning.

Not only does Ramon effortlessly flit between an exciting client list, getting behind the lens for brands like Carhartt and publications like The Fader, but he also curates the photography and filmmaking platform CULT he founded with his girlfriend, Evelyn Dragan. “Whether I’m shooting my friends or celebrities I’m always looking to be authentic,” he explains. “Authenticity is one of the most important words in my work.” And it shows.

As well as staying ahead of the curve with CULT, Ramon’s own projects like his ongoing collaboration with a troupe of contemporary dancers entitled Company and a blog of personal pictures and behind the scenes looks at his work – what he calls his secret diary – are revealing insights into creative who clearly loves what he does. “As long as I’m able to shoot I’m happy with anything that comes.”
