Great new comic from Breakdown Press about the aftermath of a brief but intense affair

Klaus is a comic by cartoonist Richard Short about an eponymous cat from Hartlepool, and in Klaus Magazine No.1 we are told the backstory of Klaus’ all-consuming adoration for Lovely Horse. As Richard describes, Klaus’ love grew from a pathetically brief affair and although previous comics suggested the love was unrequited, with “Lovely Horse mostly appear[ing] as a distant figure on the horizon or in Klaus’ dreams and hallucinations, [here] Lovely Horse gets to speak for herself.” The comic follows Klaus and Lovely Horse through rural hillsides, forests and flowing rivers as Klaus’ fixation continues to escalate and Lovely Horse’s delicate hooves canter further from his jittering grip.

Klaus Magazine No.1 also includes the story of a bird named Steven and guest strips by cartoonists Antoine Cossé, Amanda Baeza and Luke Pearson, amongst others. Published by Breakdown Press, the magazine was designed, with illustrated endpapers, by Joe Kessler. Richard Short has been drawing Klaus for six years, and his comics have previously been published by No Brow as well as prior volumes with Breakdown Press.
