A Modernist tale of love, with velvet flares, wooden cladding and a laughing monkey

Date
4 November 2015

In their editorial for Vogue India, photography duo Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello shot the relationship between a woman living the 70s dream and a monkey. Set in a California Modernist house, wooden-clad with plush carpets and an indoor rock installation, they stare lovingly into each other’s eyes, hang out by the pool, have a laugh on the sofa and play piano, all while she’s dressed up in suede, mock-croc leather and corduroy flared jumpsuits. The attention to detail in the furniture, artworks and flickering television screen really bring the scenes to life. Here Sofia and Mauro have managed to strike the perfect balance of playful and expertly referenced, staging a revival with great effect. Based in Paris, they have been featured in Numéro , Interview , The New Yorker , Lula and Vogue among many others.
