Varied, playful and slightly odd drawings from Japanese illustrator Summer House
Japanese illustrator Summer House has a joyful name that reflects his high-spirited work. In his own words, he “draws nice lines and colourful figures in a playful mood”.
Across his impressive client list of Wired Japan, Mercedes-Benz, Dentsu and Shukyu magazine, Summer House applies a varied style of consistent amusement. His illustrations differentiate in style, some use bold lines to surround the work for emphasis, while others alternatively use a blending pastel colour palette so illustrations merge into one another. These individual styles are the result of the illustrator, “exploring the imaginary tropical island in my mind”.
The variety in Summer House’s work also develops from his diverse creative education. After studying for a diploma in fashion at Bunka Fashion College, Tokyo he went on to study graphic design at Musashino Art University. The result is a portfolio which crosses many styles in application and outcome but has Summer House’s brilliant and always slightly odd illustrational stamp.
