Getting Behind the Design

Here at It’s Nice That, we pride ourselves on “championing creativity.” But how often do you see people championing the people that help make the creativity to champion happen? Those unsung heroes – the project managers, account handlers and producers – are instrumental in making a project start, happen and reach fruition. So we thought it was about time we told the stories of those more behind-the-scenes guys.

Partnering with recruitment specialists Represent, which hosts numerous jobs for those aforementioned roles, we’ve created a devoted destination for all things PM and producer related. We’re bringing you more of an insight into what they do, how they do it and how they came to be doing it in the first place.

Through a series of features we’ve looked at the salaries across various roles, and the baffling and huge collection of different job titles in the field. We’ve also provided a glossary of the various tools, apps and programmes that come in handy for PMs, account handlers and producers. We’ve also looked at the multifarious routes of getting into these jobs, and whether or not you always need a creative background.

In more in-depth features we’ve explored the issue of gender, speaking to key figures about the gender balance they’ve encountered in different agencies throughout their career. There’s also a no holds barred look at what the relationship between a project manger and a creative is really like. Spoiler alert! They don’t actually hate each other. Then we looked at what exactly those roles do through the life of a project, from pre-pitch to seeing a design unleashed on the world. Finally, a Pentagram project manager took us through a typical working day.

Throughout this week we’ll be posting some of our own INT-focused articles exploring more issues around project management, account handling and production roles, so stay tuned and in the meantime head over to the Represent microsite to read more.
