Following last November’s Cop26, Given, an agency for purpose-driven brands, is inviting artists of all disciplines to submit work for an upcoming publication, The Uncook Book. The book will champion and communicate climate solutions – “solutions that are not about tinkering around the edges but are reimagining our future” – with illustration, design and art. A call for submissions is open until 31 January 2022. All profits from the sale of The Uncook Book will go to environmental organisation Friends of the Earth.

“When it comes to the climate emergency, many of us are experiencing fatigue, thanks to the weight of what needs to be done and its daily presence on the news agenda,” explains Becks Williams, creative director at Given. “We wanted to launch a project that would help tackle any sense of hopelessness around the issue by raising awareness of the scientifically-backed solutions which will start to make a real impact.” The Uncook Book will collate work from artists “passionate about the planet and art’s power to communicate and inspire.”

Artists looking to submit are tasked with capturing three key concepts in a simple and inspirational way: unbake how we consume, unbake how we live and unbake what we value. Each concept will describe the problem, the scientific solution and artists are invited to offer their take on real-life examples which put the solution into practice. Given welcomes global submissions in any medium; artists can submit for free via their website.

Work selected and published in The Uncook Book will help make science-based climate solutions accessible, raise funds for Friends of the Earth and uplift audiences feeling overwhelmed by the scale of the issue.
