Yana Peel has been announced as the new CEO of the Serpentine Galleries. Its previous director, Julia Peyton-Jones, is stepping down this month after 25 years in the role. Yana is co-founder of Outset Contemporary Art Fund, a global, privately funded foundation that supports emerging artists, and CEO of debating event organiser Intelligence Squared. Yana will work together with the Serpentine’s existing artistic director Hans Ulrich Obrist on developing the gallery’s future programmes.
The gallery’s outgoing director, Julia Peyton-Jones, was responsible for instigating the Serpentine’s successful pavilion series, which has commissioned original architectural structures by the likes of Zaha Hadid, Sou Fujimoto and Frank Gehry.
This year’s pavilion by Bjarke Ingels Group opens on 10 June.
