“The crimson tide has turned”: PornHub tells women to “F Your Period” in its latest campaign (NSFW)

In the latest instalment that sees the website tailoring more and more content towards women, PornHub has released a campaign about “the dirty deed” titled F Your Period. Launched last week, the campaign is inspired by studies showing that orgasms can help alleviate period pain.

The first PornHub campaign focused exclusively on women is lead by a hilarious yet sophisticated and empowering animation created by advertising agency (ironically named) Officer&Gentlemen. The short video, coming in at just over two minutes, features a host of witty comments such as “riding the cotton pony,” “your bloody buddy” and “Auntie Flo” sandwiched between an incredibly informative and cheeky voiceover. With a colour palette of reds and pinks (of course), the scenes flow (pun intended) meticulously from object to characters to statistics. The animation and art direction is by Vladimir Marchukov, with additional animation by Yaroslav Kuryanovich, Slava Romanov, Oleg Kulinich, Aleksandr Tereshin and Anastasia Chikunova, and illustration by Radik Zagidullin.

Alongside its informative qualities, the campaign also allows women to input information about their cycle’s length and frequency on PornHub and, every month, get a free week of ad-free PornHub Premium services. “We wanted to create a female-centric campaign championing the benefits of having a menstrual orgasm,” Pornhub’s brand manager Alexandra Klein explains. “Countless articles out there [support] menstrual orgasms’ benefits, but many are focused only on the act of having sex with another person, which certainly isn’t always possible or desirable.”

F Your Period’s claims are both backed and inspired by a 1999 study from the University of Virginia that found women reported more frequent orgasms during their menstrual cycle. “We created this initiative in hopes of encouraging women everywhere to practice self-care during their periods,” states Alexandra, “regardless of how their partners may or may not feel about that time of the month.”
