The New York Times Magazine has won the top prize at this year’s Society of Publication Designers (SPD) Awards. The magazine’s design director Gail Bichler, who will be speaking at this year’s Here 2016 symposium, accepted the gold medal for Magazine of the Year at the presentation evening in New York City late last week.

The silver medal for Magazine of the Year went to New York Magazine and design director Thomas Alberty. Other shortlisted finalists for the award included quarterly arts magazine Elephant, Eight by Eight, More Magazine and Wired.

The SPD also awarded a medal for Brand of the Year, which went to Gather Journal and creative director Michele Outland. The shortlist included GQ, National Geographic, Wired and New York Magazine, which also won silver in this category.

Website of the Year was given to Wired, and App of the Year was won by National Geographic. The Members’ Choice prize was awarded to Entertainment Weekly and design director Tim Leong for The Return of Han Solo in November 2015.
