This new group exhibition looks at the body from a female perspective

A new exhibition is to open across The Koppel Project’s two London-based venues. Breaking Shells is curated by Justine Do Espirito Santo who has selected nine artists to take a closer look at the body from a female perspective across new and commissioned sculptures, paintings, drawings, videos and installations.

Chelsea Culprit, Penny Goring, Rachel Jones, Jessie Makinson, Jala Wahid and Zoe Williams will be taking over The Koppel Project’s Baker Street gallery, while Lotte Andersen, Shana Moulton and Hannah Perry will show work at the Koppel Project’s second space, the Hive, on Holborn Viaduct.

The Koppel Project is a “creative hub” which encompasses two art galleries, 70 artist studios and a creative workspace. At Baker Street, Part 1 looks at the body from historical and contemporary angles, taking a closer look at the ways in which bodies are perceived in pop culture, sex work and fetish. Part II represents a space where the body is set free from free or metaphorical constraints, revelling in movement as a form of resistance.

Breaking Shells will run 25 January – 10 March 2018.
