Tim Walker to shoot the Pirelli Calendar 2018 next week in London

British photographer Tim Walker, known for his longstanding collaboration with Vogue, W and Love magazine will photograph next year’s Pirelli calendar. The shoot will take place next week in a secret location in London, with the cast and concept still under wraps. Even so, Pirelli’s team says: “what is certain is that Walker is known for the absolute originality of his sets, which have often seen him described as ‘dream-like’ and ‘surreal’”.

Tim is the latest in a line of renowned photographers to take on the calendar, following Peter Lindbergh’s black-and-white edition for this year, his third calendar, Steven Meisel (2015), Steve McCurry (2013) and Annie Leibovitz in 2016, which included stars such as Patti Smith, Yoko Ono and Serena Williams.

After working as an assistant to Richard Avedon after graduation, Tim Walker shot his first fashion story for Vogue aged 25. In 2008 he had his first major solo show at the Design Museum called Tim Walker – Pictures, and received the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator from the British Fashion Council.

He moved into filmmaking in 2010 with The Lost Explorer which won best short at the Chicago United Film Festival. He staged the exhibition Storyteller at London’s Somerset House in 2012, the same year he received an honorary fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society. In 2013 published the book The Granny Alphabet with Lawrence Mynott and Kit Hesketh-Harvey.

The Pirelli Calendar 2018 will be released in November 2017.
