The beautiful game gets a redesign in David Watson's Euro 2012 posters

Apparently Euro 2012 kicks off today with Greece and Poland running around the pitch first and while I’m evidently not the world’s biggest footy fan, I am totally into these Euro 2012 posters created by David Watson at Trebleseven. This is exactly what great graphic design should do – getting people’s attention regardless of the topic it’s presenting.

Echoing the colours of each country’s kit, there are two different version of the posters both based on a flag-coloured hoop motif. It’s the simplicity and nod to classic 20th Century design that David’s employed in these posters that works so brilliantly for me, especially when they’re all grouped together. By removing any obvious allusions to the sport, but still managing to tie everything together, our focus is drawn to the slick design. And you know what? These may have even encouraged me to watch a whole match during the next few weeks (probably not though).

A graphic poster for Greece during Euro 2012. A large circle in the centre features the blue and white stripes of the Greek flag. Below the circle, the word “Greece” appears above a schedule of matches against Poland, Czech Republic and Russia. Three small circular icons representing those countries are aligned to the left.
