Deep Throat Studio is an independent graphic design practice with a name guaranteed to grab your attention. But don’t think that’s just it, there is far much more to the studio than what lies on the surface.

Founded by Jozef Ondrik (a designer we’ve praised previously) and Zdenek Kvasnica the two Prague-based designers met while studying their bachelor’s degrees at the University of Zlin. The pair ventured off to study masters at — Zdenek at Studio 304, part Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, and Jozef at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy — but regrouped on a project which spurred them on to start their own studio.

“The studio does not a have a specific focus in the field and we do not work with a particular medium,” explains the pair. Consequently, Deep Throat Studio’s projects differ from one to the next, for instance refined, minimal designs for architecture institutions lie next to shapely hyper-real poster designs for a club night. “The concept or theme predicts the medium. We participate in campaigns and visuals, we create fonts and make websites, we also run workshops and sometimes we write texts too.”

Sourcing clients is a natural process for the studio, “we often work for our friends and their friends or their acquaintances,” they explain. “Our clients are mostly cultural institutions, architectural organisations, social centres, smaller shops and small individuals.” More recently, Deep Throat has expanded joining forces with “a young talented designer” Matúš Buranovský as they collaborate on visuals for NoD Gallery, and work on a publication with photographer Vendula Knopova, as well as collaborating with Studio Pixl-e on a campaign for a performance artist. All of this work is on top of “trying to finish our scripts and our endless story with our web portfolio…” which gives viewers the opportunity to fully dive into their vibrant work.
