Beautiful women and buildings from American illustrator Gigi Rose Gray

There’s a beautiful vividness to Gigi Rose Gray’s illustrations – reds are crimsons, blues are ceruleans and yellows have seeped into deep ochres. Gigi crops into the small moments and hones in on a handful of people or the facade of a building.

It gives the American illustrator’s images intrigue as the viewer deciphers where the figures are and what they’re looking at. Her work feels graphic but Gigi’s style means her black lines house a wonderful mix of shapes and tones giving it great depth. This series is taken from the illustrator’s show at the NAC gallery in New York, and interestingly only female silhouettes are used. We never see the faces of those women, but it’s the level of detail Gigi has gone into with their clothes and coiffured hair that gives them their identity and sassiness.
