Marion Jdanoff's skillful screen prints and books are packed with vibrancy
French illustrator and printer Marion Jdanoff documents her work through a series of books. In an age where it is the norm for illustrators to display their work solely online, Marion’s process of drawing, printing then photographing a book is a refreshing documentation that adds a flourish to her style.
After moving to Berlin in 2011, Marion began to work with silkscreen printing. This led to her meeting Damien Tran an illustrator and printer with whom she started Palefroi in 2012, “a framework which embraces all of their practices, the self-publishing of books and prints in particular, but also sporadic concert organisation”. Together they also run the collection Accumulation Primitive for which they invite other artists to collaborate with them.
On top of all of these creative projects Marion has created numerous books of her own over the past few years, each being distinct from the other. Marion’s comic, Schaffhauser displays her skilled and experienced work as a screen printer, full of vibrant colour combinations to admire. Other more simpler but refined works include Convalescence, a delicate collection of illustrations, printed faultlessly. Jumping between her two practices is a routine that not only evidently enhances her work but one she relishes. “I really enjoy being able to go back and forth between this work as a duo and my own work, where I can focus more on figuration, narration and storytelling”.
With her mix of expertise in printing, an eye for ornamentation and innate drawing style we look forward to seeing what Marion does next.
