It’s a Christmas miracle! Two best friends, both alike in creative dignity, combine forces to produce one of the sweetest books we’ve seen in a long while. Colour Me Healthy is the brainchild of Dazed & Confused designer Claude d’Avoine and one of It’s Nice That’s favourite illustrators Tom Edwards and promotes healthy eating for children by way of a very nicely designed colouring book. We spoke to Claude about the ideas behind the project.

“I wanted to do the book to encourage children to see the fun side of fruit and veg, in the same way programmes like The Poddington Peas did when I was younger. There’s something so visually stimulating about the colour of healthy food, the mere sight the healthy food spectrum instantly makes you feel better!”

In order to help kiddlywinks start to enjoy their fruit and veg the book is laid out with the unhealthy food in grayscale, making it hard if not impossible to colour in. Pancakes, burgers and chicken and chips are also draw with evil expressions compared to the innocent cheeky grins of the healthier snacks.

“I wanted something accessible to children, and for me the best way to do this was for them to learn through practice,” Claude tells us. “I feel that keeping kids creative and getting them involved is a great way of learning. It’s not to say this book is just for kids! We could all use a little bit more help eating healthy. I definitely do, which was another reason for doing the book! The fried chicken image was originally called Chicken Dinner based on a night out Tom and I had.”

Colour Me Healthy is launching at London’s KK Outlet on Thursday 12th December and is available to buy for your loved ones over on their site.
