Considering New York band Parquet Courts recently announced in an interview that they were staying away from social media and the web because it wasn’t “punk,” it comes as something of a surprise that lo-fi punk master Ty Segall has just released a music video with an accompanying interactive website. I guess this is what happens when you make brilliant, unique music – artists start queuing up to interpret it for you, be it through artwork, remixes or websites.

Ty’s video for new single Manipulate is directed by Matt Yoka and is accompanied by a site coded by Simon Wiscombe, which allows you to click all over a scene and completely manipulate (geddit?) what you’re seeing. According to an interview over on The Creators Project there are actually one trillion combinations. One trillion! To be honest, just talking about this thing won’t do it justice – go and spend five minutes on it yourself. It’s fucking brilliant.

An ornate gold frame hangs by two strings against a backdrop of red velvet curtains. Inside the frame, a bright green background features the handwritten text “TF Segall Manipulator”. Below the frame, a pixelated white cursor points to the text “Click on objects in the scene to manipulate them.”

A central figure wears an ornate black mask and a textured grey beard, with a blue brain resting on their head. To the left, a person is enclosed in a clear plastic dome, and to the right, a chimpanzee looks on with an open mouth.
