Zoran Pungerčar's book covers show some lovely character design and whimsical abstractions

Date

Slovenian illustrator Zoran Pungerčar has a whimsical approach to creating book covers, with some lovely work for publishing house LUD Literatura. Taking bright colours and Matisse-like cut out shapes, the designs have a child-like quality to them, but avoid being overtly cutesy. Where they really come alive is in the more figurative works. Scant linework has made for wonderfully communicative facial expressions and gestures, and the regal quality afforded to that chap in the bath shows a real knack for character design.
