Green Park Station gets an Attenborough-themed rebrand

Celebrating the launch of The Green Planet, BBC Creative has transformed the tube stop into an “otherworldly” immersive experience.

London passengers travelling via Green Park Station today have received first looks at a new (and, for the sake of early morning commuters, hopefully, not-too-confusing) Green Planet platform created by BBC Creative. The temporary rebrand sees every poster space across the southbound Victoria line platform filled with dramatic images of plants to coincide with the release of Sir David Attenborough’s latest series, The Green Planet.

For the campaign, titled Welcome to Their World, all platform signage has been changed to read Green Planet. At the same time, the wide spectrum of plant life starring in the series is showcased across the station, including carnivorous underwater life forms and humanoid desert cacti. For commuters who have a minute to spare, two digital screens on the platform show the trailer from the five part series – a fair commiseration prize for anyone who misses their train.

Johnny Ace, design director, BBC Creative, says: “We looked to our favourite science fiction films for inspiration with these designs. Each poster focuses on a single plant species, and we’ve composed them like portraits of strange creatures from another world. Taking over a whole platform of Green Park station has been huge, and one of the most ambitious projects BBC Creative has ever undertaken.”

Welcome to Their World joins the ranks of inventive campaigns from the BBC’s in house creative agency, which includes a Max Siedentopf-directed Radio 2 campaign featuring real-life families, an animated waiting room for the Euros, and the agency setting its own Manchester billboard on fire for Attenborough's natural history series, A Perfect Planet.

The Green Planet, which launched yesterday, 9 January on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, uses ground-breaking camera technology to explore the world of plants. Attenborough fans tuning in last night were introduced to a gigantic underground fungus that survives by enlisting an army of ants to feed it leaves from nearby plants.
