You’re likely not surprised to hear that humour is the driving force behind Absolute Felter’s brilliant creations. From sweaty tube journeys, cat bums in your face and changing-room mishaps, their felt masterpieces are hilarious and relatable in equal measure. “The aim is to make things feel inclusive,” Absolute Felter says. “It’s about laughing at yourself rather than others.”

Absolute Felter’s technique, they say, is “basic (quite like myself)”. Using thread, glue and scissors, they have a pretty organic approach, allowing their pieces to have a charmingly rough edge. The project began after Absolute Felter walked away from a “horrendous” job due to anxiety, and was then later diagnosed with a case of Pure OCD. Being advised to take on a creative project, they now use their practice to raise awareness of the disorder. In a recent piece, My Dirty Little Secret, Absolute Felter shows a face being “smooshed” with genitals to represent her experience with sexually intrusive thoughts. There are plenty of powerful messages here beneath that funny felt surface.
