Unusual nudes and strange, glittering fashion photography from Arnaud Lajeunie

There is something elusive about Arnaud Lajeunie’s work – an unpredictable style and quality that’s hard to pin down. The French photographer, who doubles up as co-founder and photo editor of alternative erotic journal L’imparfaite, and his eye for the beautiful and bizarre, continue to improve and impress. From flashes of skin and close crops to vivid bursts of colour, he favours chance in his work. Often images are layered in subtle ways that can be easily missed, and upon closer inspection, one photograph of a naked girl in the woods reveals her to be climbing over a man wearing camouflage and red shoes. Whether his shoots are based on ideas or instinct, as Arnaud’s photography matures, it manages to become more simple and more beguiling at the same time.

A black and white close-up of a person’s bare back. The light catches the curve of the spine and the texture of freckles across the skin.
A person in a black sweatshirt holds their hand clenched as a glass shatters in mid-air. Shards of glass and a golden liquid spray across the frame.
A nude person leans over a large, mossy organic form in a dark forest. A pair of bright pink trainers sits on the ground beneath them.
A person stands against a white wall, wearing a purple long-sleeved shirt under a yellow satin slip dress. Their face is obscured by a bright, white glare of light.
A black and white photograph of a rectangular glass panel shattering. Bright sparks and clouds of white smoke explode outwards against a dark background.
A blurred portrait of a person, distorted by a vibrant chromatic aberration effect. Streaks of neon blue, yellow and red shift across the figure against a plain white background.
A person stands behind a large, translucent balloon that obscures most of their body. They hold the top of the balloon against a dark curtain backdrop.
A close-up portrait of a person looking directly at the camera. Half of their face is cast in deep shadow, while the other half is brightly lit.
