Great new Flatpack Film Festival identity by Dot Dash

Film festivals and great graphic design go together like Powell and Pressburger; as proven by the identity for Iceland’s Stockfish Film Festival, and Dot Dash’s designs for Flatpack Film Festival in Birmingham.

The studio started working with the festival last year, creating its 2014 look around a backwards “F” which has been carried through to this year’s graphics. The idea, according to Dot Dash’s Justin Hallstrom, was to use the symbol as a representation of “the quirky nature and eclectic programming of the festival.”

This year’s look builds on this idea and 2014’s projection references, in a newly 3D form. “We took inspiration from the transient and urban nature of the festival, the rise and fall, the construction and deconstruction of events in different locations, that spring up for two weeks only around the city,” Justin explains. “Therefore we let the backwards ‘F’ rise up and have the content projected onto it to convey how each spring, the festival, springs up in the city.”
