Molly Matalon shoots a fashion editorial in the desert, and things get brotherly

Date
17 October 2017

It is no secret that we are fond of Molly Matalon. Whether we’re writing about the LA-based photographer or commissioning her ourselves when working on something across the pond, her tenderly composed images impress us every time — or maybe we’re just endlessly envious of the sun-filled photographs she produces.

A recent commission from Metal magazine caught our eye yet again, showing Molly’s distinct style at its best. Titled ‘Words Like, Honey’ the fashion editorial styled by Ashley Guerzon had the aim to “have this brotherly, cult, lovers vibe,” Molly tells It’s Nice that.

Hitting the nail on the head with that description, the series displays three similarly styled men, each with shaven heads and striking features wearing a mix of matching two pieces and interacting delicately. Shot in Yucca Valley, a desert landscape in California, the colour palette of the series is seamless. Sandy yellows are interjected with pinks from blushing cheeks to watermelons, with the photographer using the open sun to her advantage.
