Alex Hunting and Naomi Anderson-Subryan: Tickets are now available for January’s Nicer Tuesdays Online

We’re heading back online for January’s coveted event! Grab your tickets now and tune in on Tuesday 25 January at 6 pm GMT.

Kicking off 2022 with a bang, we’re delighted to announce that January’s Nicer Tuesdays will take place online. Wherever you are in the world, tune into the first creative talk of the year from 6 pm GMT where you’ll hear from renowned graphic designer Alex Hunting as well as London-based illustrator Naomi Anderson-Subryan. We’re thrilled to be welcoming a global audience to this month’s creative event but we also have to offer our sincere apologies to anyone hoping to attend a physical Nicer Tuesdays this month. Due to the ongoing uncertainness of Covid-19, we have to prioritise the safety of our Nicer Tuesdays guests and prolong our community coming together. We hope to make our way back to London’s Oval Space as soon as it is safe to do so and hope to see many of you there.

Gaining insight into two very different but equally brilliant creative practices, we’ll first hear from Naomi who will deliver a ten-minute talk on her crafty illustration practice. She’ll tell us about her inspirations and processes, sharing insights from her humorous works which span joyful ceramic characters, collages and editorial illustrations. Next, we’ll hear from Alex Hunting, the founding designer of Alex Hunting Studio, who will discuss the ins and outs of Kinfolk’s redesign as well as a new offshoot for children, Kindling, in a 25-minute Q&A with our editor-in-chief Matt Alagiah.

Pay what you can with our tiered payment system and grab yourself a ticket below. Also, did you know that if you join Extra Nice, It’s Nice That’s membership programme, you’ll automatically receive a ticket for all our online events, for the entire year? That’s just one of the many perks that make Extra Nice so special. To find out more about this and all the other benefits of joining Extra Nice, head over to the dedicated part of our site.

Last year, acclaimed publication Kinfolk underwent a dramatic redesign to celebrate its tenth year in print. This new visual direction was led by Alex Hunting, the founding designer of the eponymous London-based studio. Aiming to set Kinfolk apart from the crowd, the rebrand also features custom typefaces from Schick Toikka. At January’s Nicer Tuesdays, we’ll hear from the graphic designer who was also responsible for Rapha Mondial as well as branding and art direction for the likes of New Balance, The Eye and St. Leo. Alex will tell us about the crucial decisions that went into Kinfolk’s redesign and how the team was keen to “keep things moving so the title remains distinctive.” Bringing even more expression to the famed publication’s spreads, Alex will touch on the new mag’s type hierarchy which forms the solid foundations of the redesign. Tune in to ask your questions on this landmark project to Alex directly and to hear more about a master of print’s creative process.

Naomi Anderson-Subryan

We first met this charming illustrator back when she was a fresh graduate from Camberwell College of Art. We got to know her wonderful craft when we featured her as part of The Next Generation (known back then as The Graduates) and since then, in just a few short years, have seen her go from strength to strength. Humour, kitsch and cult classics continue to be prevailing inspirations for Naomi and, at January’s Nicer Tuesdays, we’ll hear more about how she makes her work so special. Delving into her distinctive character design (seen across collage and ceramics), hear first-hand from Naomi on how she crafts stories through multidisciplinary illustration.
