Ibby Njoya, Kris Andrew Small, Ione Gamble, Fa and Fon: Tickets are now available for March’s Nicer Tuesdays!

Nicer Tuesdays is back in person on Tuesday 29 March at 6.30pm! Join us at London’s Oval Space to see four incredible creatives take to the stage.

Much like the arrival of spring, we have some more exciting (and positive) news for you all: Nicer Tuesdays is returning back to London’s Oval Space for this month’s event.

Swapping the digital screen for the physical walls, we’ll be welcoming four incredible creatives to the stage to share their work, processes and to get those inspirational cogs turning. The speakers are set designer Ibby Njoya; graphic designer and illustrator Kris Andrew Small; creative duo Fa and Fon; and Polyester Zine founder, Ione Gamble.

Throughout the evening, Ibby will discuss his latest Harry Styles-themed collaboration with Dazed, plus a handful of other recent projects. Kris will also give us the low-down on his portfolio to date, and we'll hand over the mic to twins Fa and Fon as they run us through their multi-faceted practice. And last but not least, Ione will talk about the ins and outs of Polyester Zine.

To celebrate the return back to Oval Space, our event partners El Rayo Tequila will be providing each attendee with a complimentary drink. There will also be tasty snacks from Love Corn. Please also be aware that photography and filming may be taken at this event for marketing and promotional purposes. If you do not want to be photographed or filmed, please speak to our team on the day.

Also, please bring ID with you to the venue as this is an 18+ event. If you are in need of disability access, please make yourself known to a member of the Oval Space team on the evening or email hello@nicertuesdays.com so we can arrange assistance. And finally, read on below to learn more about our inspiring roster of speakers for this month’s event.

Describing his work as a “dance between colour fashion and art”, Ibby is a London-based, Cameroon-born set designer who has gone from strength to strength – and his distinctive style and colourful palettes can be thanked for that. Solidifying his style as a merging of art and fashion, his psychedelic and utterly addictive tones can be found in the pages of numerous publications including Vogue Hommes, Vogue France and many others. During his talk, Ibby will uncover the process behind his decorative designs; he will also give us the details behind a couple of other key projects, including a recent shoot for the Harry Styles issue of Dazed, shot by friend and collaborator Rafael Pavarotti.

Kris is known for his unique blending of styles – the type of work that treads the line between graphic design and illustration. From textural pieces to photo collages, scribbly illustrations and bold graphics, the designer has developed a seamless aesthetic that’s led to commissions for Nike, Reekbok Classics, Wonderland Magazine, Crack Magazine and Adobe among others. Kris often takes societal issues and transfers them into his abstract and distinctively loud visuals, which is something that we’ll be hearing more about in at March’s Nicer Tuesdays. We’ll also learn about his process and the projects he’s been tucking away at recently.

Not only are London-based duo Fa and Fon Watkins twins, they’re also a creative force to be reckoned with. Born in Thailand, the pair moved to the UK aged seven and have since dedicated their practice to building unique worlds for the likes of Converse, Nike, Fila and more. What stands out the most is their overlapping of mediums – where photography meets 3D – and their penchant for creating immersive narratives. All of which are inspired by futurism, pop culture and their Asian heritage. At this month’s Nicer Tuesdays, the duo will dissect their multi-faceted practice for us, and give us the low down on their inspirations and why they never stick to the rules of conventional design.

Since 2014, Polyester Zine has grown from cult to movement, placing feminism, identity and culture at the core of everything – this includes its commissions, editorials and even the bi-weekly Polyester Podcast. Founded by Ione, the London-based editor and writer oversees all content under the zine’s print and online output. To date, the bi-annual zine has seen contributions from Polly Nor, Tavi Gevinson, Courtney Love, Edward Meadham and Pussy Riot. Giving us a behind-the-scenes tour, we’ll be learning more about the making of Polyester at this month’s Nicer Tuesdays, why she goes against traditional publishing, plus the type of work she hopes to make in the future.
