Another month, another Nicer Tuesdays launch – but this one comes with some extra exciting news. Whereas previous months have been hosted over Zoom, this month, Nicer Tuesdays Online will be taking place on our newly built online events platform! We’re so excited to release it to the world and are hoping you’ll join us for its inaugural event: Nicer Tuesdays July, featuring graphic design studio Actual Source, photographer Siân Davey, artist and illustrator Lilian Martinez (BFGF) and co-founder of Boy.Brother.Friend KK Obi.

Click the link below to check it out and get yourself a ticket – the event is taking place on 28 July at 6pm BST and we’re running a pay what you can, tiered payment system again this month. You’ll also be able to create an account and keep track of all your tickets for any events you’re attending, hosted by us. As always, below is a short introduction to this month’s speakers in case you still need a little persuading.

Actual Source

Actual Source

Comprised of Davis Ngarupe and JP Haynie, Actual Source is a Utah-based design studio with worldwide renown. Together, and with their community of collaborators, they design across the spectrum of visual communication and in recent times have become just as well known for their publishing imprint and shop. Through this aspect of their practice, Davis and JP collaborate with contemporary artists, designers, and writers to publish limited edition books, fonts, clothing, and objects. At Nicer Tuesdays, the pair will be answering questions from our editor Matt, and from the audience, on how they got to where they are now.

Lilian Martinez

Lilian Martinez (BFGF)

Lilian Martinez, also known as BFGF, is an artist and illustrator based in California making “accessible and functional art objects for the home and body.” With references to The Simpsons, Nike and many other pop culture nods, which appear across her throws, paintings and sculptures, Lilian’s work is inspired by comfort, beauty and humour. At Nicer Tuesdays, Lilian will be telling us about a recent body of work which she exhibited and a collaboration with Nike.

Siân Davey

Siân Davey

Before Siân Davey became a photographer, she worked as a psychotherapist, running her own private practice for 15 years. And it’s an experience she still brings to her practice creating beautiful images of her daughters Martha and Alice (among many other subjects). Siân will be detailing the broader philosophy around her work, how psychotherapy taught her to raise her consciousness and how it’s often best to stay close to home in order to find your personal narrative.

Boy.Brother.Friend

KK Obi

The co-founder of a new publication Boy.Brother.Friend, alongside Emmanuel Balogun, KK Obi is a stylist and creative director. He’ll be using his ten minutes to talk about his most recent publishing venture though, one which initially began in 2017 as a limited edition zine in collaboration with LNCC but which has now been remastered in a first issue focusing on communities in the diaspora. Not one to start slow, Boy.Brother.Friend’s first issue includes contributions from Mohamed Bourouissa, Liz Johnson Artur and Mowalola.
