RIBA Stirling Prize

Date
21 July 2011

Buildings eh? Where would be without them? The jungle probably. Anyway, The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) announced the shortlists for its annual prizes today, and it was an impressive double for Zaha Hadid who is up for gongs in both the UK and international categories.

On the domestic Stirling Prize shortlist, her Evelyn Grace Academy in London is joined by the new Olympic Velodrome, The Angel Building, the redesigned Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, An Gaelaras in Derry and the Folkwang Museum in Germany (which qualifies because it was designed here).

The international Lubetkin Prize sees Hadid’s Guangzhou Opera House go up against The Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi, The Met in Bangkok, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts and The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

The winners will be announced in October.
