What a year 2020 has been. How do you even begin to describe a year that has turned the use of the word “unprecedented” into a cliché? Over on our small corner of the internet, we like to think we’ve brought you some joy, entertainment and inspiration each month in the form of our creative talks series Nicer Tuesdays. Although it usually takes place on the last Tuesday of every month, December’s event is slightly different due to the festive season and will be a week earlier on Tuesday 15 December.

Taking to an online stage in March (for obvious reasons) Nicer Tuesdays Online has allowed us to pick the brains of some of our favourite creatives based all over the world. In yet another global edition of inspiring talks, on Tuesday 15 December we’ll welcome esteemed artist and designer Geoff McFetridge, photographer Mayan Toledano, biannual publication and online platform Deem Journal, and hilarious illustrator Clarice Tudor to the online stage.

You can pay what you like with our tiered payment system and grab yourself a ticket below. Or, if you join us regularly at Nicer Tuesdays Online, you can get your hands on a ticket each and every month of the year (plus a host of other perks) by clicking here signing up for Extra Nice. Find out more about this month’s speakers below.

Geoff McFetridge

Artist and designer Geoff McFetridge has a vast range of projects under his belt, from self-titled books to editorial commissions for global publishing giants to international solo exhibitions, not to mention a collaboration with Apple where the Canadian created a watch face which blinks every minute. A world-renowned artist with an unmistakably smooth and distinguished visual style, at December’s Nicer Tuesdays Online, we’re eager to hear from the LA-based artist as he talks us through a few highlights from his latest show These Days Are Nameless at V1 gallery in Copenhagen.

Mayan Toledano

Having racked up nearly 100,000 fans over on Instagram, the New York-based Mayan Toledano is making a name for herself for her blended photography and film practice. Her work focuses on gender, gay culture, the female body, intimacy and relationships and has been featured in the likes of The New York Times, Vogue, i-D and Teen Vogue. Dialling in from the US east coast for December’s Nicer Tuesdays, Mayan will be giving us an insight into her highly original creative process.

Deem Journal

When the biannual print journal and online platform Deem Journal launched its inaugural issue earlier this year, the creative industry was taken by storm for its provocative stories centred on social practice and community-based narratives. Issue One, titled Designing for Dignity, delves into the humanist ethos of the publication, asking what design can do for the community and how it can spur trans-disciplinary and intergenerational conversations. At this month’s event, we’re excited to announce that Deem Journal’s co-founder and creative director Nu Goteh will be joining us to tell us more about the visual language of the thoughtful first issue and how design can intersect with social practice.

Clarice Tudor

If you’re ever in need of a good laugh, illustrator Clarice Tudor will sort you out. Based in Liverpool in the UK, Clarice creates work that is bursting with originality and hilarious characters which come in the form of friendly planets, sassy dogs with an attitude and high-heeled boots, not to mention a self-doubting star. In her upcoming Nicer Tuesdays talk, Clarice will be discussing her astute sense of humour which seems to effortlessly unfold in each of her artworks.
