Enter Yoffdog’s graphic worlds of textural maximalism

This graphic designer uses typography and texture to bitcrush digital and analogue worlds together.

For the Staffordshire-based designer Yoffdog, passions come alive amongst the chaos. His work revolves, simply, around things he likes: music, clothing, film, and TV – and he loves Power Rangers. “For me, I like to have some sort of connection to the piece of work I am making,” Yoffdog describes, “I also like to redesign cover art for my favourite albums.” Alongside these personal passions, he’s done campaign designs for cult streetwear brand Supreme, Nike, skate brand Palace, and fashion designer Marc Jacobs’ Heaven. He’s a prolific designer, and you’ve definitely seen it around. The main techniques Yoffdog uses are typography and texture through either digital or analogue approaches. His playfully jagged style is right where it belongs; pushing youth culture into the future.

His influences are indie brand Paynestar and Misery Elliot, a multimedia artist informed by Afrofuturist textures. However, Yoffdog also takes inspiration from much more. He says, “I look less for people for inspiration and just the things around me in the world.” His cover art focuses in on music around him, and the most stand-out ones surround indie icons Blur, electronic duo Frou Frou, as well as Imogen Heap as a solo artist, plus PC Music (A.G. Cook) collaborator Oklou, and earthy sensation Clairo. It’s clear Yoffdog is drawn to the margins and thrives in the liminalities of experimentation.
